Freshman Martaa Chogsomjav and Diana Smolinski, along with junior Margaret Jaraczewski, represented the Wildcats at Baylor’s Hurd Tennis Center. On Nov. 7, Martaa picked up the Wildcats’ first singles win of the weekend, defeating Baylor’s very own Luna Ivkovic in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
Smolinska, on the other hand, fell in a hard-fought match to Giuliana Giardina of UTSA, 5-7, 5-7. Jaraczewski narrowly dropped her opening match versus Luna Buijtenhuijs from Texas Rio Grande Valley, 6-7 (4), 3-6.
When it came to doubles play, Martaa and Jaraczewski nearly took down Baylor’s Anushka Ashar and Ivkovic but came up short, 5-7. The Wildcat pair bounced back later in the day with a strong 6-1 win over a duo from UTSA.
At the ITA Central Sectional Championship on Nov. 6, junior Maragloo Chogsomjav and sophomore Chanel Rustemova would be the players to begin competition. In singles play, Maragloo battled Wisconsin’s Maria Sholokhova, forcing a tie breaker but eventually falling 6-7 (4), 4-6. She went on to drop her consolation matches as well.
Doubles action saw Maragloo and Rustemova defeated in straight sets by Iowa State. Representing the Cyclones were Maria Alberto and Stanislava Shulzhenko. The ‘Cats pair also fell to Minnesota’s Jessica Bernales and Lily Jones in consolation play, 4-6, 1-6.
On Nov. 9, Martaa would face off against Rice’s Francesca Maguina. She would fall 6-2, 6-4 in the singles battle. Jaraczewski also fell to a Rice player, losing to Valentina Ponce 6-2, 2-6, 10-7.
The NCAA singles and doubles championships are next on the Wildcats’ radar, which will take place from Nov. 18 to Nov. 23, in Orlando, Fl.
