After K-State won 1-0 over Iowa State on Oct. 22 for its first Big 12 win of the season, it headed east to Cincinnati, Ohio, to take on the Bearcats and continue that momentum in its second straight road game.
However, from the first whistle, the Bearcats controlled the game. The first half was slow, with three shots between the two teams. K-State had 66% of them, but Cincinnati needed only one.
In the 10th minute, Cincinnati had an early corner kick. K-State couldn’t clear the delivery, and Coley Sidoski gained possession and played it toward the goal, where her junior teammate Campbell Tiana tapped it in to put Cincy up 1-0. The score remained the same going into halftime.
K-State had more chances in the second half, with seven shots and four on goal, six of which came in the last 15 minutes. However, the Bearcat defense held strong from K-State’s offensive pressure to secure the win.
“We knew that they were going to be combative, especially in the midfield,” head coach Colleen Corbin said. “There were a lot of moments where we needed to value possession of the ball more and expose them in the areas we knew we could be dangerous.”
K-State has two weeks and two games left in the season, with its next being the Wildcats’ final home game.
“We have the opportunity to play in front of our fans one last time on Friday night and to decide what mark we will leave for the seniors this season,” Corbin said.
The ‘Cats play their last home game of the regular season at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30 against UCF.
