Hey, Wildcats! Welcome back to campus and the town of Manhappiness. Whether you’re a first-year, transfer, returner or graduate student — we’re happy you’re here at K-State.
As classes begin and you start intermingling with the people around you, we hope you get to know the stories behind the faces, because that is exactly what we do at the Kansas State Collegian.
As K-State’s independent and student-run newspaper, we have the responsibility to be the voice for students on campus. We are the ones holding people accountable, whether that be fellow students, administrators or even community members, making student journalism essential. We don’t print these pages to see our names on stories, but to share timely and unbiased journalism with you — the students and community of Manhattan.
While we are student journalists and run this paper by ourselves, we have the same rights and responsibilities as any other newsroom. Journalistic integrity, for example, is a common denominator across all publications, and while we want to report content in a timely manner, we also pride ourselves on being factual over being the first to publish a story.
We will cover all events, from happy, sad, emotional, tragic and inspirational. Even though some weeks may not be as diverse, it is our job to relay current events no matter which category they may fall within. Our due diligence as journalists is to tell people’s stories through their eyes and report on events that impact you. With that commitment, the K-State Collegian asks for your help in sharing story ideas and giving us feedback on what you would like to see covered. If there is a topic you think would impact the students on campus, please reach out to us, we would love to hear from you.
As journalists, we have the opportunity to tell stories people take pride in and are thankful to be shared, making this job so valuable and life-altering in itself. Our staffers come from all different backgrounds, experiences and skill sets, yet one thing stays the same — dedication to producing quality content weekly. As readers, The Collegian hopes you find an appreciation for not only our work, but the stories told through it.
