A member of Kansas State’s Sigma Chi fraternity died after falling from a window at the fraternity house around 3:15 a.m. last Saturday morning, according to sources close to the family.
19-year-old Jack Fleischaker, freshman in finance, was from Overland Park and graduated from Blue Valley Northwest High School. He was also a philanthropy chairman for Sigma Chi.
Fleischaker was reportedly transported to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka on Saturday, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Close friends of Fleischaker expressed their grief through social media.
“You were the brother to me that I never had. I knew that anytime of the day I could give you a call and you would pick up. No matter what room you walked into you were going to lighten the mood and be the funniest dude in there,” one of his childhood friends wrote to him in an Instagram post.
Though the Sigma Chi house, at 1224 Fremont St., is off campus, Sigma Chi is a student organization affiliated with the university.
Michelle Geering, director of communications and marketing at K-State, said the university has not released a formal statement on Fleischaker’s death.
“We will review the police report, and depending on what that says, kind-of dictate the next steps,” Geering said.
Riley County Police are investigating the incident but have not released details at this time.
The Collegian editorial board extends condolences to the family and loved ones of Jack Fleischaker.

I was walking past this house on Saturday afternoon and noticed that the windows on the second floor didn’t have screens. I thought to myself that it was unsafe given the parties at fraternities. Regardless, this is so, so sad. I hope his family can find support and healing during this terrible time.
