Ames, Iowa — K-State soccer snapped its 11-match Big 12 winless streak Thursday night, earning a 1-0 road victory over Iowa State at Cyclone Sports Complex.
Senior forward Rilyn Rintoul scored in the 24th minute, and junior goalkeeper Maddie Sibbing made three saves to secure the shutout. The win improved K-State to 6-6-4 overall and 1-6-1 in conference play, while Iowa State fell to 4-8-4 and 0-6-2.
The Wildcats outshot the Cyclones 20-9 and held a 14-3 advantage in shots on goal. K-State’s 14 shots on target set a program record for a Big 12 match, surpassing the previous mark of 12 against Houston last season. It was also the fourth time this season the Wildcats recorded at least 20 shots in a match.
“I’m just incredibly proud of the team for earning a result on the road in a challenging environment,” head coach Colleen Corbin said.
Corbin said the frequent fouls disrupted the game’s rhythm, making it difficult for the Wildcats to establish their usual flow. Despite that challenge, she praised the team for staying competitive throughout the match.
“It took a 90-minute performance from everybody top to bottom,” Corbin said. “Just really proud of the team for earning a result, especially at this point in the season when they faced as much adversity as they have.”
Rintoul scored the game’s only goal after junior forward Adelle Francis carried the ball down the right side and sent a cross into the 18-yard box. Rintoul charged toward the left post and finished with a one-touch shot that went off the right post and into the net.
The goal marked Rintoul’s fourth of the season and eighth of her career, tying her for fourth in program history. The senior from Apple Valley, Minnesota, also reached 20 career points, ranking sixth in K-State history. She now has 27 shots on goal this season, the second-highest total in program history for a single season.
Francis recorded her first assist of the season and fourth of her collegiate career. She has registered at least one point in three consecutive road matches, totaling three goals and one assist during that stretch.
Corbin said the team’s work in the final third helped create more dangerous opportunities on the night.
“We’ve been really intentional in training the last few weeks about really trying to make our opportunities count and making sure we put them on frame,” Corbin said. “Just really happy to see that pay off.”
K-State continued to pressure Iowa State after halftime, forcing goalkeeper Eme McClenahan to make 12 saves. The Wildcats limited the Cyclones to just three shots on target, although Iowa State threatened late in the match.
In the 88th minute, Lucy Froizheim fired a shot from 10 yards. Sibbing dove to make the save and secured the loose ball before the Cyclones could create a second chance off the rebound.
Sibbing’s performance added to a season of milestones. She recorded her fourth shutout of the season, tying for sixth in program history for shutouts in a single season. Her 13 career shutouts extended her own school record, while her 13th career win at K-State also improved upon her program record. Her six wins this season are tied for second in school history for a single season.
“Our ability to keep it building out of the back, but also coming up with big-time saves and big-time moments, Corbin said. “Really happy for her and the rest of the team to earn a shutout. It’s been a minute since we haven’t allowed a goal in a game, so really happy to not give one up tonight and to preserve the win.”
The win added to a record-setting season for the Wildcats. K-State now has 70 team points, breaking the previous program record of 68 set in 2025. The team has recorded a school-record 116 shots on goal and 20 assists, tying for second in program history or assists in a season.
In Big 12 play, K-State has scored seven goals, the third-highest total in program history for a conference season. The Wildcats have also recorded seven assists in league matches, ranking second in program history, while nine players have recorded an assist this season, tying for fifth in program history.
Sophomore forward Gabby DeMers also continued climbing the program’s record lists. Her 23 shots on goal this season, including her three against the Cyclones, rank third in K-State history for a single season.
Iowa State head coach Matt Fannon said the Cyclones struggled to match the Wildcats’ energy and win battles through midfield.
“To be honest, I think we lost too many battles, especially through midfield, and they just had a bit more energy than we did,” Fannon said. “I think that we still probably should have got something out of the game and didn’t take our chances when we had the opportunity.”
K-State improved to 5-2-1 this season when leading at halftime after taking its 1-0 advantage into the break. The Wildcats are 31-10-4 all-time when leading at halftime and 8-2-2 under Corbin. The win also marked Corbin’s first victory over Iowa State, moving her record against the Cyclones to 1-0-1.
K-State looks to build momentum when it travels to Cincinnati for a noon matchup Sunday, Oct. 25, airing on ESPN+. With three conference matches remaining, the Wildcats continue fighting for a spot in the Big 12 tournament.
