The K-State women’s golf team closed the Schooner Fall Classic with another under-par round Monday, finishing seventh in a competitive 16-team field at Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Okla.
The Wildcats shot 1-under-par 279 in the final round to conclude the three-day tournament at 4-under 836, ending seven shots ahead of Big 12 opponent UCF and two shots behind Oklahoma State.
The result marked a bounce-back performance for K-State after the Wildcats finished 11th at the Annika Intercollegiate earlier this month. K-State entered Monday in seventh place after shooting 4-under 276 in Sunday’s second round.
“Today was an important round for us,” head coach Stew Burke said. “Our goal for the day was to shoot under par and keep the pressure on the teams ahead of us.”
The Wildcats accomplished that goal, with five players contributing to a steady final round as K-State remained under par for the tournament.
Sophomore Stalee Fields paced the Wildcats throughout the event, finishing tied for 14th at 4-under 206. Fields shot an even-par 70 on Monday and set a new career low for a 54-hole tournament, improving on the 211 she recorded at last season’s Schooner Fall Classic.
The Fort Worth, Texas, native’s 206 tied for the seventh-lowest 54-hole score in program history. Fields also tied for first in the 93-player field in par-5 scoring at 5-under and tied for fifth with 13 birdies.
Junior Nanami Nakashima delivered one of the tournament’s biggest final-round performances. After entering Monday tied for 43rd, Nakashima climbed 25 spots with a 5-under 65, her lowest collegiate round to date.
Nakashima finished tied for 18th at 3-under 207. Her 65 tied for the fourth-lowest single-round score in K-State history, and her 207 matched the career-low 54-hole score she set at the 2025 Schooner Fall Classic.
“Stalee [Fields] and Nanami [Nakashima] had a good week, so there’s plenty to be positive about moving into our next event,” Burke said.
Kelsey Chen finished tied for 28th at even-par 210. The junior entered the final round after a 4-under 66 on Sunday but shot a 4-over 74 on Monday. Chen’s second-round 66 helped K-State climb the leaderboard significantly on Sunday, as she and Fields each posted five birdies and the Wildcats climbed into seventh place.
Freshman Amy Wang finished tied for 53rd at 6-over 216 after a 3-over 73 in the final round. Fellow freshman Mia Ingham tied for 62nd at 9-over 219 but saved her best round of the tournament for Monday, shooting a 1-over 71.
Sophomore Keen Visavapattamawan competed as an individual and finished tied for 33rd at 1-over 211. She shot a 2-over 72 in the final round and finished tied for fourth in par-5 scoring at 4-under.
The Wildcats’ final two rounds marked an improvement over their opening round. K-State shot 1-over 281 Saturday, then 276 Sunday and 279 Monday.
Iowa State won the tournament at 30-under 810, finishing 17 shots ahead of Oklahoma. Iowa State’s Alexandra Vidal Rivera claimed the individual title at 10-under 200, tying the tournament’s scoring record since the event adopted a par-70 format in 2019.
For K-State, the seventh-place finish provided momentum heading into its next tournament. Burke said the Wildcats are still developing, particularly with two freshmen in the lineup, but expressed confidence in the team’s progress.
“We are far from where I see this group come springtime, but Coach Rinko Mitsunaga and I are confident in this group and their ability,” Burke said.
The Wildcats will return home Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 28 and 29, to host the Powercat Classic at Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan.
