Trailing 3-2 going into the bottom of the eighth inning, Kansas State rallied for five runs to grab a commanding lead, which they held onto in the ninth for a 7-3 victory over Connecticut.
Kansas State scored six runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by shortstop Dee Kennedy hitting a grand slam as the Wildcats powered their way to a nine-run win over Iowa, 15-6.
Donning pink and white uniforms in Kansas State’s Play 4 Kay Game on Feb. 10, the Wildcats jumped ahead early with a 6-0 run before Oklahoma State University made its first points. K-State went on scoring runs of seven, six and three points all in just the first quarter, putting the Wildcats ahead 18-9 after the first 10 minutes of play.
Kansas State inched close to the Colorado Buffaloes — even leading by three points in the second quarter — but couldn’t deliver, resulting in a 56-47 loss. Declining momentum, too many turnovers and getting outrebounded were ultimately the main causes of K-State’s defeat.
Kansas State collected its sixth loss in conference play Tuesday night, falling 59–54 to West Virginia after one of the strongest first-half defensive showings of the year.
