Following the end of the season for Kansas State’s men’s basketball team, Director of Athletics Gene Taylor announced the hiring of Casey Alexander early this morning. The current head coach at Belmont University agreed to a five-year contract with the Wildcats.
Alexander has seen success at Belmont, helping the team to 166 wins along with four conference titles in the last seven seasons. Included in those four titles was the 2026 Missouri Valley Conference Championship, where Alexander brought the team to a 26-6 overall record and 16-4 in conference play.
Going along with Alexander’s contract — approved by K-State Athletic, Inc. Board of Directors and President Richard Linton — will include a payment of $3.3 million during 2026-27 and will receive a $50,000 base salary increase each year remaining on the contract.
“I’m incredibly excited to join the team at K-State and can’t wait to get the journey started,” Alexander said. “K-State has such a rich tradition and a wildly passionate fan base, and I’m grateful for the opportunity provided by Gene Taylor to be a part of it.”

Following the hiring of Alexander, he will be formally introduced to the public at a press conference on Monday, March 16, at 11 a.m.
“We couldn’t be more excited to announce Casey Alexander as the next head men’s basketball coach at K-State,” Taylor said. “We had significant interest in our job from numerous talented and successful coaches from around the country. What was evident throughout the search was the positive reputation of K-State basketball, and of the coaches we talked with, Casey emerged as the one who best fit our program.”
