Cynthia Warrick, interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, announced the college’s participation in a Voluntary Separation Incentive Program [VSIP] through an email on Monday, Nov. 2.
According to the Office of Human Resources Management VSIP information page, VSIP offers a “lump-sum payment” to employees who voluntarily separate from an institution through early retirement. This allows an organization or institution to “restructure” its personnel.
The email includes eligibility requirements for the program, such as participants being a tenured or tenure-track faculty member, being at least 55 years old, having acquired at least 10 years of service within a benefits-eligible position at a KBOR institution and being employed within the College of Arts and Sciences or K-State Libraries.
Warrick said eligible faculty members are recommended to consult with financial and tax advisors before deciding to participate.
“We understand that decisions about retirement are deeply personal and often complex,” Warrick said on behalf of the dean’s office. “If you are eligible and considering this opportunity, we encourage you to take the time to carefully evaluate your options.”
The Human Resources Benefits office is hosting a “Retirement Ready Workshop” on Nov. 19 from 3:00-4:30 p.m. for faculty and staff who plan to retire soon. According to the event’s registration form, the workshop will guide participants through understanding the retirement process and benefits available to them.
