At 11:42 p.m. on Oct. 17, the Riley County Police Department arrested K-State Athletics Hall of Famer Terence Newman on charges of disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing. An RCPD representative told the Manhattan Mercury that the charges stemmed from an altercation with a staff member at O’Malley’s Alley.
RCPD released Newman on a $500 bond, and he is no longer in custody.
Newman was back in Manhattan this weekend for the Dillons Sunflower Showdown, where he received a plaque for his induction into the 2026 National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame class.
The Salina native played for the ‘Cats from 1999 to 2002, where he was a two-time All-Big 12 selection, an All-American for the 2002 season and won the Jim Thorpe Award that same year.
He was the fifth pick of the 2003 NFL draft and played 15 seasons for the Dallas Cowboys and Cincinnati Bengals, ending his career with the Minnesota Vikings, where he still works as an assistant since his retirement.
Newman wasn’t just dominant on the field; he also dominated on the track. At K-State, Newman won two Big 12 Championships in track and field, running 10.20 in the 100 meters and a school-record 6.62 in the 60-meter dash.
Terence Newman is on K-State’s Ring of Honor and will join the College Football Hall of Fame this December in Las Vegas.
