Letter from the editors | Meredith McCalmon and Libby Zuck
There’s a particular rhythm to a week at Kansas State. With all-encompassing options for classes, student orgs and athletics, the K-State rhythm doesn’t announce itself loudly. You have to pay attention to those around you, listening to the quiet moments in between your daily habits. Whether in lecture halls, the Union or a conversation with a friend on the way to class, let’s slow down and notice the beat we all march to.
Introducing, “A Week at K-State,” The Collegian’s spring 2026 special edition. Inspired by “A Week at Kansas State,” a book published by Collegian photojournalists in 1987, the following pages walk you through a routine week here in Manhattan. This edition is a collage of modernized student routines, capturing just a few of the ways they spend their time in this place we love full well.
During the week of April 6-12, our staff set their alarms bright and early to find the beauty in the spaces between before the sun rose over Manhattan Hill. While most students were enjoying lunch on Bosco Plaza or participating in a class activity, our photographers were out capturing moments many would overlook. Once night came, our writers set out to connect with students to understand what the story behind the photos really told. Our hope is to try and find out what is important to you all, making it important to us.
We hope this special edition acts as a snapshot, freezing in time a university in constant motion, shaped by every Wildcat. If this week proved anything, it’s that even beneath the most familiar routines lies a deeper perspective and new experiences. For those of you who can’t feel the K-State rhythm, don’t worry — we captured it all.
Welcome to “A Week at K-State.”
