No. 18 Baylor got hot early, draining two threes to start the game, one of them by Taliah Scott, the Big 12’s second-leading scorer. The Bears’ defense was relentless as well, contributing to the early 10-2 lead.
After a timeout, the Wildcats started to rally. Although Kansas State showed life, Baylor kept getting it done in transition, as many of its points came off the fast break or off turnovers. The Wildcats stayed close behind, with the score at 19-13 by the end of the first quarter.
The Bears got hot early in the second quarter, too, once again draining two threes to start. K-State was solid on defense, and it helped keep the game close. Freshmen Gina Garcia and Brandie Harrod both consistently showcased good shot selection for the Wildcats on the offensive side of the ball, putting up six points each.
Although Baylor kept finding ways to score, K-State continuously stayed within 10 points, and the Bears led 35-26 going into the break. Turnovers were apparent for both sides, as Baylor had 10 and K-State had nine going into the half.
The third quarter was more of the same for Baylor, once again starting fast. The Bears took the third quarter by the throat, going on a 7-2 run and forcing the Wildcats to take a timeout. The timeout didn’t stop Baylor’s momentum, though, as its lead grew to 20 points. The Bears made scoring look effortless, holding a 60-40 lead at the end of the third.
The scoring onslaught didn’t end in the final quarter. Baylor nearly extended its lead to 30 points, as the Bears took the win 80-54.
Jordan Speiser and Tess Heal led the Wildcats in scoring, each dropping 12 points. Harrod finished with 10 points, while Garcia ended the night with six points and five assists.
K-State looks to end the season with a win, as the Wildcats take on Iowa State in their last game of the regular season. The Cyclones will come to Manhattan at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
