During his Monday weekly press conference, K-State football head coach Collin Klein announced that starting tight end Will Anciaux will miss the rest of the season due to a lower-leg injury sustained in the Wildcats’ loss to Cincinnati on Sept. 26.
Early in the second quarter, Anciaux caught a pass from quarterback Avery Johnson and ran it for a 40-yard gain, but officials called the play back for pass interference. Anciaux was then tackled by the legs and rolled up on by a Cincinnati defender. When he got up, he could not put weight on his right leg and was out for the rest of the game.
Anciaux has recorded 6 receptions for 84 yards through the first five games of the season. The senior tight end from Wichita has been a consistent target for Johnson, helping the Wildcats significantly with his play.
Due to his injury, K-State will now rely more on its two other tight ends, Garrett Oakley and Linkon Cure. Oakley, a senior from Columbus, Neb., has been the Wildcats’ leading tight end receiver over the past two years. Cure, the sophomore from Goodland, Kan., will also get more reps at tight end with Anciaux out.
As for the offense, K-State will need the same production with fewer targets. With Anciaux down, Johnson’s receivers will need to produce more to make up for Anciaux’s absence, with each of them taking on some of that production. With the Wildcats losing a solid target, the offense will have to do more with less to make up for a receiver out for the season.
K-State will return to Bill Snyder Family Stadium to play Houston at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9th on Fox.
