The College of Business received $2 million of the $7.5 million total raised during Kansas State’s second annual Day of Giving, the most money donated to a single participant. Day of Giving, created by the KSU Foundation, allows K-State colleges and services to raise as much money as possible in 24 hours with challenges, advertisements and a special event hosted at the K-State Student Union.
“We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our alumni, friends and supporters,” Haley Ahlers, director of communications and marketing for the College of Business, said. “The College of Business has built a strong, connected community over the years … Many of our donors are former students who credit their experiences here with shaping their careers and lives, and they want to help future Wildcats have those same opportunities.”
Ahlers said the College of Business intends to use the majority of the $2 million to fix areas of the building and for general upkeep.
“We are approaching the 10-year anniversary of being in our 160,143-square-foot state-of-the-art building,” she said. “Maintaining these learning spaces for our students was a main priority this year for the college, and we communicated that with our alumni and friends. They showed up big.”
The College of Business still has plans to put the money in other important areas as well.
“With these funds, we’re looking to upgrade classroom technology, expand scholarship offerings, provide innovative academic programs and applied learning opportunities that respond to industry needs,” Ahlers said.
Part of the excitement and fun of the K-State Day of Giving is competing and supporting one another with unique advertisements for each fund, Ahlers said.
“We had so much success with Dean Gwinner’s video last year, we knew we had to bring him back again this year,” Ahlers said. “Since our main push was our Building Innovation Fund, the Kevin Gwinner Gen-Z Building Tour was born.
