Kansas State men’s golf battled through four rounds at the Prairie Dunes Country Club, but settled for a 12th-place finish in the 2026 Big 12 Championship. The Wildcats closed the tournament at 34 over par 1,154 on April 29.
K-State began the tournament with a 36-hole total of 17-over 577, placing them in a tie for 11th place after opening day. Senior Alex Lindstrom paced the team to start, as he fired off consecutive rounds of 1-under 69 to move into the top 10 individually at 2-under par.
“I thought we did a good job grinding through it,” K-State head coach Grant Robbins said. “Alex was obviously very solid all day, as was Ville [Virkkala], and Shea [Harmeson] had a great bounce back in round two.”
The Swedish golfer combined for seven birdies on the day and showed toughness by finishing his first round with three birdies over his final five holes. Freshman Ville Virkkala also made an impact in his Big 12 Championship debut, putting on back-to-back rounds of 1-over 71, which had him tied for 25th after 36 holes.
On Tuesday, the Wildcats improved, recording their best round of the tournament with a 2-over 282. Senior Shea Harmeson led the charge with a 3-under 67, one of the top scores of the day. His performance moved him up 20 spots on the leaderboard to tie for 29th. Harmeson had four birdies and just one bogey.
“Shea [Harmeson] played extremely well, and I thought everyone hit quality shots today,” Robbins said. “We are looking forward to one more round tomorrow.”
Lindstrom remained among the top 15 despite a 1-over 71, while Virkkala added a third consecutive round of 71 to match Harmeson in 29th place entering the final round.
Although the Wildcats showed momentum, it did not carry into the final round. The Wildcats posted a 15-over 295 in the fourth round, moving them one spot back in the standings. Harmeson and Lindstrom tied for 42nd at 9-over par 289, and Virkalla climbed five spots on the final day.
“It wasn’t the result we wanted, but I am proud of how the guys competed this week,” Robbins said. “Playing 72 holes on a golf course is a huge challenge both physically and mentally, and I thought we showed a little bit of fatigue today.”
Senior JP Roller contributed a 3-over 73 in the finale after reentering the lineup. Sophomore Fionn Dobbin added a 5-over 75, while freshman Oliver Toyer finished 78th overall. No. 5 Oklahoma State claimed the team title at 10-under par 1,110.
