Kansas State closed the regular season home slate with mixed results. The Wildcats earned a dominant conference win before losing the regular-season finale in the Sunflower Showdown versus Kansas.
The win came against Iowa State, as K-State swept the Cyclones 4-0 on April 10 at Mike Goss Tennis Stadium, marking the Wildcats’ third victory in conference play.
The pair of Maralgoo Chogsomjav and Martaa Chogsomjav controlled their match from the start in doubles. The sibling duo earned a 6-1 win, marking their fifth conference win of the spring.
Sasha Kyselova and Chanel Rustemova followed up with a 6-3 decision to clinch the doubles point. The momentum carried into singles play, as Maralgoo Chogsomjav collected her 10th singles win of the season after retiring her opponent early on in the second set.
Rustemova added another point with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win, and Varvara Bernovich sealed her match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory, evening out her singles record. Three singles matches were left unfinished, with K-State holding the lead as play was halted.
Two days later, the Wildcats ran into a very familiar rival in the No. 39 Kansas Jayhawks. The ‘Cats struggled to gain traction in doubles action, and both matches ended with 6-2 scores as K-State fell behind early.
The Wildcats had to make lineup adjustments in singles competition, as Maralgoo Chogsomjav was out due to an injury. Kyselova fell in straight sets, while Rustemova and Addison Renfro also met the same fate. This would be enough for Kansas to secure the win, ending K-State’s season in the losing column.
K-State closed the regular season in 12th place in the Big 12 standings, narrowly missing qualification for the conference championship. However, the Wildcats finished the season with three wins in four matches to cap off the end of the schedule.
