Brothers Coffee is preparing to close its location at The Point this Saturday, Dec. 13, after nearly six months of planning and preparation.
David Romero, one of the co-owners of Brothers Coffee, was brought a business proposal by Tress Hair Boutique owner Jessica Nelson. Nelson proposed taking over Brothers Coffee’s lease and renovating the space to put in her own coffee shop venture, Bandidas Coffee Co.
“They gave me a proposal, and I took it to my business partners, and we looked over our whole business plan and decided at that point [to close The Point location],” Romero said. “I think this is a great decision to make based on what we want to do in the future over here at the Edge District.”
Employees will not face many, if any, disruptions due to the closure of Brothers Coffee’s location at The Point, Romero said.
“There’ll be just a really small effect because we’re closing Saturday,” Romero said. “The employees that we’ve hired over the last year are the ones that they’ll employ themselves over there. So there won’t be any of them moving over here [to the Edge District location].”
The Edge District location has become more central to the company’s long-term vision, particularly with its proximity to local businesses. The company has expanded into catering and also has plans to renovate the Edge District location.
“This [the company’s client base at the Edge District] is about 90% career people and 10% students,” Romero said. “Eventually, we’ll build a drive-through down here when the hotel is built. We’ll have an exclusive on this corridor for Brothers Coffee.”
According to Romero, the closure is a positive move for all involved.
“It [Bandidas Coffee Co.] will continue to be a great place for people to gather over there for coffee and all that as they take over and remodel and rebrand,” Romero said.
However, longtime patrons of Brothers Coffee will still have a place to go.
“Those who really love Brothers Coffee — they can still come over here and be a part of what we’re doing,” Romero said. “We’re going to continue to grow, we’ll continue to reach this community. We always had the vision to do what we’re doing over here; it’s just we didn’t know whether the main shop at The Point would be part of that or not. We’re just shifting. We’re pivoting to a whole new level, a new chapter of the book.”
