They say, “All roads lead to Rome,” but how about, “All roads lead to home?” Derby native Dylan Edwards, a freshman transfer from Colorado, recommitted to Kansas State football April 28, according to GoPowercat’s Tim Fitzgerald.
Edwards, a 5-foot-9 speedy running back, was the No. 2 overall high school prospect in Kansas, behind freshman quarterback Avery Johnson, a childhood teammate and close friend of Edwards.
He originally committed to the Wildcats June 23, 2022, just a couple weeks ahead of Johnson, who committed July 5. However, the road to Manhattan became complicated for Edwards.
On July 27, 2022, he received an offer to Notre Dame, and he decommitted from K-State two days later and quickly committed to the Fighting Irish.
On Dec. 8, 2022, Edwards decommitted from Notre Dame and committed to head coach Deion Sanders at Colorado Dec. 10.
Edwards burst onto the scene, figuratively and literally, when the season kicked off. Using his speed, he scored four touchdowns in the Buffaloes’ season opener against TCU. He was the first true freshman to have four scores in a game since Kansas’ Devin Neal in 2021.
He started the first four games of the year for Colorado, with six total starts. He tallied 76 carries for 321 yards and added 36 receptions for 299 receiving yards. He had five total touchdowns on the year.
Colorado signed running back talent from the transfer portal as Edwards entered himself last week. The connection to K-State was immediate, considering Johnson and Edwards’ relationship and Edwards’ dad, Leon, being a former K-State running back from 1992-94.
Edwards took an official visit to the Little Apple this weekend. He commits with three years of eligibility remaining.
Edwards’ skillset makes for a great pairing with sophomore running back DJ Giddens, the Wildcats’ bruising back. In addition, Johnson’s prowess as a runner completes a backfield that will keep defenses guessing in the fall.
K-State was heavy on the pursuit of a running back in the portal, including hosting Utah State’s Davon Booth. It is unlikely that Booth will want to join a running back room with Edwards and Giddens. Regardless, the Wildcats have their guy.
