Kansas State soccer maintained Colorado for the first period, but its defense slipped in the second half as the Buffaloes scored the only goal of the match, leading to the Wildcats’ 1-0 home loss on Thursday.
“I thought we had a great performance tonight, and it was going to come down to who was going to execute their chance,” head coach Mike Dibbini said in a statement to K-State Athletics. “And they did. I thought we had good opportunities. It just didn’t bounce our way. But overall performance defensively, I thought we did a really good job. Offensively, we had created some good chances, but we just couldn’t execute.”
In the first half of regulation, the Buffaloes attacked on the offensive end, putting up 13 shots compared to the Wildcats’ 11.
The Buffaloes attempted back-to-back shots before making their first goal of the game which proved to be enough as K-State couldn’t net a goal to tie or surpass the Buffaloes.
“Our depth came in handy today, helping us and allowing us to stay on our front foot, if we continue to do those little things, the depth is going to be critical down the stretch,” Dibbins said.
With a 3-4-1 record, the Wildcats will face West Virginia at 6 p.m. on Thursday Sept. 19 in Morgantown, West Virginia in the second game of conference play.
