In the midst of football season, Kansas State reminds fans to be wary of scammers when purchasing game tickets.
According to a statement from K-State Athletics, “K-State Athletics can only verify tickets and assist fans with any issues on gamedays with tickets that are purchased from the K-State Ticket Office or through SeatGeek, our official secondary ticket partner.”
Sophia Rethman, senior in life sciences, said she was baited by ticket scammers.
“… I have almost fallen for a few games before,” Rethman said. “The things that made me realize it was a scam was when they had a really weird phone number with an area code from, like, New York and they didn’t have Venmo.”
Scammers will often reach out via the GroupMe app and ask you to pay through Apple Pay.
“They wanted to use their friend’s Venmo account, didn’t have time to meet in person and could not verify their identity,” Rethman said.
Single-game football tickets are available on the K-State Sports website.
