Chocolate and cuddly stuffed animals are filling store shelves, meaning one thing: Valentine’s Day. Whether you love or hate romance, Valentine’s Day can be the perfect excuse for some self-care. Here are my top four ideas for infusing a little self-love into the holiday!
Bake something special
If you’re anything like me, you have endless delicious dessert recipes tucked away to try but have yet to make a single one. Instead of going store-bought and grabbing some Ghirardelli, turn your search for treats into an activity. Pull out Pinterest or get on Google and find something easy and fun to make that satisfies your sweet tooth. It’s hard to be in a bad mood with the smell of baked goods wafting from the oven. Crank up some music, throw on an apron and get to mixing!
Allow yourself to splurge
I will take any excuse to go shopping. So, take this as yours! You don’t need a big budget to do something special for yourself. Grab a fancier shampoo than usual or a new book to read. Pick up some takeout or a good burger and fries.
The little things matter and remind us that life is pretty dang good. If you’re looking for a way to give yourself a metaphorical hug, treat yourself to something you usually wouldn’t.
Break out the journal
Journaling is a great way to practice self-care. Taking just 10 minutes to unwind and write allows you to refresh, recenter and prepare to move forward with a little extra love toward yourself and others.
One of my favorite prompts is a gratitude and goals list. First, write all of the things you are thankful for about yourself and your life currently. Then, look to the future. Dream big and jot down all of your biggest aspirations. Pair this time with a warm drink or a cozy blanket and give yourself time to unplug.
Have a spa day
When we get busy, it’s easy to prioritize productivity over peace. Take the time to slow down, pamper, and have fun taking care of yourself!
Try a new nail polish, draw a bath with extra bubbles or make a DIY face mask to refresh your skin. Whatever you choose, do something that makes you feel good and boosts your confidence.
