Brigham Young completed a comeback win over its rival Utah on the road last Saturday. BYU trailed by 11 at halftime but a last-minute drive capped off with a walk-off field goal helped BYU keep its magical season alive. This week the Cougars host a surging Kansas team at 9:15 p.m.
No. 2 | Colorado 7-2 (5-1)
Colorado was on the road at Texas Tech in what felt like a must-win game for both teams. Colorado emerged victorious, propelling itself into the second spot in this week’s rankings. The Buffaloes control their own destiny to the Big 12 Championship and have three winnable games left in Big 12 play.
No. 3 | Kansas State 7-2 (4-2)
K-State was on bye this week — likely needed after a tough loss to Houston. The ‘Cats are home the next two weeks against Arizona State and Cincinnati, facing each for the first time as conference opponents. K-State will need a Colorado loss to have a chance to get to Arlington.
No. 4 | Iowa State 7-2 (4-2)
Iowa State was embarrassed by Kansas in a 45-36 loss on Saturday. Iowa State struggled defensively, letting the KU offense do as it pleased. Iowa State welcomes Cincinnati on Saturday, looking to get back in the win column and continue what looked to be a great season for the Cyclones.
No. 5 | Arizona State 7-2 (4-2)
Arizona State squeezed by UCF this past week at home, winning 35-31. Running back Cam Skattebo missed the game due to a shoulder injury. The Sun Devils are at K-State this week and the health of Skattebo will be key in the outcome of that game. Skattebo is projected to play.
No. 6 | West Virginia 5-4 (4-2)
West Virginia continues to hang around the Big 12 race after a win on the road at Cincinnati. The Mountaineers are led by backup quarterback Nicco Marchiol who has stepped in for the injured Garrett Greene. With two home games against Baylor and UCF, which should be winnable, West Virginia can stay in the race down the stretch.
No. 7 | TCU 6-4 (4-3)
TCU bounced back nicely from a loss to Baylor with a big win over Oklahoma State. TCU has been dynamic on offense all season, carrying the team so far this year. The Horned Frogs have a bye this week before gearing up for their last games of the season.
No. 8 | Texas Tech 6-4 (4-3)
Texas Tech has been inconsistent all season. After a huge upset win at Iowa State, the Red Raiders followed with a 14-point loss at home to Colorado. The one consistency is Tahj Brooks, but he was held in check by the Colorado run defense. Tech is on bye this week before facing a struggling Oklahoma State team.
No. 9 | Cincinnati 5-4 (3-3)
Cincinnati suffered its second consecutive loss, losing at home against West Virginia. Cincinnati had been playing well, surprising many, but has struggled the past few weeks. The Bearcats’ tough tests continue as they face Iowa State on the road and at night this week.
No. 10 | Kansas 3-6 (2-4)
Kansas finally looks like the team everyone expected in preseason after winning 45-36 over Iowa State. The Jayhawks looked as good on offense as they have all year and the defense made big plays late to diminish any hope of a Cyclone comeback. KU plays at top-ranked BYU this week but is a team that no one will want to face the rest of the season.
