Kansas State volleyball returned to Morgan Family Arena on Wednesday, but skilled competition awaited the Wildcats. No. 17 ranked Baylor made quick work, sweeping K-State in a 3-0 win.
K-State, which dropped to 9-13 and 7-6 in Big 12 play, was beat by an order of 25-21, 25-22, 25-18. Senior Meg Brown achieved her 400th career block.
Set 1 was back and forth — so competitive that a two-point lead at any time felt substantial. The Wildcats took a 15-13 lead against the Bears with five kills from outside hitter Shaylee Myers in the set. Baylor eventually tied the game at 18 apiece before closing the set on a 7-3 scoring run to close out the set
“I just love how aggressive she’s been the last couple of matches,” head coach Jason Mansfield said. “She’s one of those players that are fearless.”
Set 2 saw a rocky start for the Wildcats with trouble hitting the ball consistently. Baylor took advantage, leading 9-5 as K-State called a timeout.
“We focused on staying positive,” Mansfield said on his team regrouping. “We knew we had not been playing our best, which meant that it can turn around at any given moment or set.”
K-State started to play better volleyball before errors killed its chances of winning the set. Baylor continued to play efficiently, taking a 21-17 lead. K-State tried its hardest, but it was not enough, as Baylor won 25-22.
An overturned call in favor of K-State tied the final set at 12, giving the fans at Morgan Family Arena hope. But the Bears went on a 7-0 run late to exit victorious and completed the sweep.
Another ranked opponent, No. 18 TCU, comes to Morgan Family Arena at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
