After a week of record-setting performances, Kansas State outside hitter Aliyah Carter was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, announced on Tuesday, Oct. 29.
It’s the 10th weekly conference honor of the fifth-year senior’s career, tallying the ninth-most in league history. She is the first Wildcat to receive a weekly Big 12 honor since Mackenzie Morris and Aniya Clinton last season.
Carter, one of the most accomplished players in team history, topped all league foes last week with 59 kills, 6.56 kills per set, 63.5 points, and 7.06 points per set, adding two school records to her prized portfolio.
Carter kicked off the star-studded week in the match against nationally ranked Utah, notching 27 kills in a four-set loss to the Utes.
Still, Carter established a school record for the most kills in a four-set match during the rally-scoring era, climbing her way to second all-time in career kills at K-State.
Playing in her home state on Sunday, the native of Dubuque, Iowa joined a group of Wildcat legends as K-State won its second five-set match over the Cyclones this year.
Carter became the first player since 2011 to record 30 or more kills in a match, matching Kaitlynn Pelge with a 32-kill performance. Her career-high 36 points became the fourth-most in K-State history.
She also contributed nine digs and led the match with three service aces. This season, Carter has recorded 10 or more kills in all but two matches, bringing her career total just one shy of the 100 mark.
Carter’s 87 swings against the Cyclones made her the third individual in K-State history to reach the mark, joining K-State Hall of Famers Dawn Cady and Liz Wegner. Across the nation, Carter is one of 14 active Division I players who have surpassed 1,680 kills in their collegiate careers.
On a Halloween night contest at home, Carter recorded a double-double in a five-set win against West Virginia. The Wildcats are 8-11 overall and 6-4 in Big 12 play.
