Riley County Police officers responded to a report of a stabbing Tuesday morning on the 3000 block of Arbor Drive. Police located 24-year-old Tabatha Deer from Mountain Home, Arkansas “who had sustained multiple stab wounds,” according to an RCPD press release.
Deer was transported to Ascension Via Christi Hospital, then airlifted to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka where she succumbed to her injuries.
Hunter Smith, a 24-year-old Manhattan resident, was apprehended at the scene and transported to Stormont Vail Hospital.
Smith was arrested on charges of first-degree murder with bond set at $1 million.
The investigation is ongoing, and according to RCPD updates “will be released as they become available.”
