39-year-old Mahboooba Babrakzai was arrested Sept. 17 after a Riley County Police Department officer was assigned to investigate her warrant. Her original charges included four counts of arson, one count of aggravated arson and endangering a child filed in July 2022.
Her bond was set at $100,000.
Ashley Tokoi, RCPD public information officer, said she set fire to a duplex in 2022.
“There were three adults and one baby who resided in one side, and then she was in the other side,” Tokoi said. “She was outside, sitting in her vehicle when they arrived … she did admit to starting the fire inside of her house, her side of the duplex.”
Tokoi said she may not have known she needed to appear.
“I do show her as homeless, so it could be just as simple as she didn’t even realize that she had to be there just due to her circumstances,” Tokoi said. “But I’m merely speculating.”
