Live music, food trucks, a beer garden and more are all on the itinerary for the third annual Wabash on the Prairie Sept. 15 at Memorial Stadium. Tickets cost $40 for adults and $10 for kids, and all proceeds go to the Sunflower Childrens’ Collective, an organization designed to help eliminate child abuse and neglect in Manhattan.
Carson Kober, executive director of the SCC, said this year the event will raise more money than any previous year.
“We serve about 400 families and children every year in our community,” Kober said. “From serving children who have ongoing cases in the courts, to children victims of sexual abuse, to families needing observations of visitations and exchanges, it is a large umbrella.”
Wabash on the Prairie will help the collective fund Sunflower Court Appointed Special Advocates, Stepping Stones Child Advocacy Center and Sunflower Bridge Child Exchange and Visitation Center to prevent abuse of Manhattan children.
“We partner with the Kappa Alpha Thetas on campus, and their national philanthropy is CASA,” Kober said. “Delta Eta voted to not just support our local CASA but to support our whole agency. We are going into the sorority house doing fundraisers with the members so they can not only understand what we are about and who they are fundraising for, but as people of the community.”
