You may know her as Posh Spice from the Spice Girls, the wife of soccer superstar David Beckham or the founder of fashion and beauty empires, but through it all, Victoria Beckham has always been a fashion icon.
On Oct. 9, 2025, Netflix released a three-part documentary series about Victoria Beckham’s life and how she became a successful fashion designer. In the documentary, Beckham reflects on how both her life and style have evolved over the years.
Let’s take this opportunity to reflect on Beckham’s style evolution and how it can inspire our own wardrobes.
First, let’s talk about Beckham’s Posh Spice era. Beckham was part of the five-member girl group, the Spice Girls, who spiced up life in the ‘90s.
Every Spice Girl has their own distinct persona: Sporty, Scary, Ginger, Baby and of course, Posh. Beckham was known as Posh Spice, a fashion-forward, sophisticated figure.
During this era, she favored simple yet chic outfits: black mini dresses paired with black heels, and her long black bob. Her understated outfits were dressed up with her signature and iconic black smoky eye, earning her the nickname “Posh.”
In her Netflix documentary, Beckham describes how she spent almost the entire Spice Girls’ clothing budget on Gucci dresses for herself.
To emulate Posh Spice, you’ll need a good pair of strappy heels. Beckham often wore a lot of red and black strappy stilettos, which added an elegant touch to her looks. A similar heel option to Beckham’s is the “Jamielynn Strappy Ankle-Wrap High-Heel” from Aldo.
For a “Posh Spice” style black mini dress, the “Anse Mini Dress” from Princess Polly is very similar to the dress she wore in the iconic “Wannabe” music video.
The last thing you’ll need for the Posh Spice era is a good eyeliner. What a coincidence that Beckham has her own makeup brand, known for its amazing eyeliners called the “Satin Kajal Liner.”
The next era we will focus on is the WAG era. WAG is an acronym for “wives and girlfriends,” the term for the significant others of famous professional athletes. Soon after the Spice Girls ended in 2000, Beckham became a full-time WAG.
While supporting her husband David Beckham, Victoria’s style became a bit more casual. She started wearing things like jeans and baseball caps. But she remained as glamorous as ever, her sleek bob transformed into a voluminous, highlighted blowout.
She paired her jeans with stylish tank tops and oversized sunglasses, hoop earrings and handbags. Although the Spice Girls were no longer performing or recording as a group, Beckham was still just as posh; many of her handbags came from high-fashion brands such as Prada and Hermès.
A lot of her jeans were low-rise boot cut jeans, similar to the “Edikted Bootcut Washed Low Rise Jeans” from Pacsun. A pair of oversized sunglasses similar to the ones Beckham wore are the “Colette 63mm Oversized Sunglasses” by Tom Ford.
Nowadays, Beckham is busy running her clothing and beauty brands. Her style is very businessy and grown-up while still classic Victoria Beckham, with lots of black, big sunglasses, bags and of course, minimalism.
In her documentary, she calls herself a minimalist and quotes Coco Chanel: “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.”
Beckham’s luxury clothing brand, “Victoria Beckham,” offers very simple pieces that are timeless and well-made. Today, she wears many of her own pieces out and about. She sports many turtlenecks, oversized work pants and stilettos.
Beckham wears her hair very simple; no big blowouts or sleek bobs, just natural wavy hair. But, of course, she still sports her iconic smoky eye; it’s just usually hidden behind a large pair of sunglasses. She specifically wears a lot of Celine glasses.
Beckham wears many oversized work pants and sells the “High Waisted Cinched Trouser” on her website. For a more affordable option, I love the “Hayden Wide-Leg Pant” from Banana Republic.
For an iconic Victoria Beckham turtleneck, you could buy her own design, the “Polo Neck Jumper.” Or you could buy a more affordable one, such as the “Long Sleeve Ribbed Turtleneck Top” from Target.
The Victoria Beckham Netflix documentary not only reflects on the life of the famed singer, footballer’s wife and fashion designer, but also highlights her fashion choices through the years. Victoria Beckham shows that true style is timeless.
Her ability to maintain a distinct, signature look throughout many eras is why she has been solidified as a fashion icon.
