The Wildcats secured the win against South Dakota on Sunday after a three-goal second half, completing a 3-0 victory.
Although the first half was quiet for both teams, Kansas State was able to get on the board in the 64th minute.
Freshman forward Allison Marshall earned the first goal for K-State — the second of her young career. Off an assist from fellow forward Morgan Struttmann, Marshall kicked the ball right past the South Dakota keeper
“Morgan is such a good player,” Marshall said. “I knew she was going to slot the ball back, so I made it a goal of mine to get that ball first before the defender got there.”
The second goal came from forward Andra Mohler, which was her second career goal. Mohler propelled the ball in the lower left corner off an assist from senior forward Kiran Singh.
Assists came easy for K-State, passing with ease in the second half.
“It shows what we are trying to do in terms of moving the ball,” head coach Mike Dibbini said. “We’re a dynamic team when we do that.”
The third and final goal came from first-year midfielder Langley Mayers. Struttmann, who assisted another goal earlier, grabbed her second point.
After a 6-1 victory over Green Bay to open the homestand, the combined nine goals are the most in a two-game span in K-State soccer history.
“I think we have a lot more speed up top and more patience,” Struttmann said. “I think our vision in the back is better than last year too.”
The Wildcats will next compete at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5 at Arkansas State.
