Although the state’s industry experienced a typical seasonal dip, Kansas was able to report a steady $32.3 million in total revenue for September 2025. This is roughly flat compared to $32.2 million during the same month last year, showing a minor month-to-month decline rather than a 2.7% increase, but still indicating steady performance.
For the fiscal year ending September 30, the total casino revenue reached $106 million, a 4.5% rise from the previous year. Alongside the state’s four major properties (i.e. Kansas Star, Hollywood, Boot Hill, and Kansas Crossing), newer entrants like Fast Withdrawal Casino have also drawn some public attention. They’ve mainly become popular due to their emphasis on quicker, more efficient gaming transactions as a push toward convenience and smoother operations in the industry.
The performance of Kansas’s more established casinos had a mix of gains and small declines at the property level. Kansas Star Casino, which is located near Wichita, stayed in the lead with a 1% year-over-year increase, generating about $12.6 million in September. Hollywood Casino (positioned near the Kansas Speedway in Kansas City) also brought in $12.6 million and recorded a 5% drop compared to the same month in 2024.
Despite that dip, the establishment is likely set to continue benefiting from its location, which happens to be near a lot of major entertainment venues. Going further west, Boot Hill Casino in Dodge City saw a bit of a YoY decline, with revenue heading down from $4.1 million to $3.9 million. Kansas Crossing Casino in Pittsburg held steady at around $3.2 million, a level it has maintained for much of the past year as well.
Overall, analysts can now confidently say that they view this steady performance as a positive indicator of market balance. This tells us that Kansas’s regional casinos may have managed to find stable ground amid changing economic conditions and growing competition.
One other subcategory that has contributed to these third-quarter numbers comes from sports betting. In September 2025, the total betting handle (the amount wagered) reached $283.7 million, marking the 3rd-highest month in Kansas history. This was a 14% jump over the same period last year; however, despite more wagers being placed, sports betting revenue took a plunge from $18.3 million in 2024 to about $8.2 million this year. Another factor that dropped was the Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR), which shows how much operators actually keep after paying out winnings.
This decline shows that even though more people were betting, promotions and payouts meant profits were lower in the short term. However, even with these dips, sports betting will likely continue being an important category under the state’s gaming economy. Observers expect this integration between sports betting and casino operations to improve as the market matures, especially as promotional expenses begin to taper off and profit margins increase.
From a financial perspective, gaming in Kansas has contributed to a large portion of the state’s public funds. Casinos are taxed at roughly 10% on their net gaming revenue, which is why they are seen as a dependable revenue stream for the state budget. For fiscal year 2025, total distributions from gaming and sports wagering are expected to reach approximately $100.8 million. But as nearby states ramp up their own operations, Kansas operators are having to think more strategically about keeping players engaged.
Loyalty programs, concerts, tournaments, and local promotions also have a hand in attracting and retaining patrons. Properties like Hollywood Casino already benefit from partnerships with nearby entertainment hubs, while others focus more on regional events to maintain engagement with their customer base.
The latest figures show that Kansas’s gaming market is becoming more stable and continues to grow at a steady pace, even with a few periodic ups and downs. With consistent casino results, growing sports betting activity, and steady tax contributions, Kansas casinos might just be finding their balance.
