No. 16 K-State (6-1, 3-1)
Dual-threat quarterback Avery Johnson played one of his best games of the season last week without using his legs, proving his arm could be the difference in a win, throwing for nearly 300 yards.
K-State’s tight ends have been spectacular this year, with four catching two touchdowns each. Sophomore Garrett Oakley and freshman Will Anciaux both caught touchdowns last week.
Offensive coordinator Conor Riley said Anciaux is the most improved player on offense this year. His progression mixed with sophomore Brayden Loftin potential return gives the ‘Cats a deep tight end room.
Linebacker Austin Romaine played a big role last week against West Virginia’s run-heavy offense. Now, facing Kansas star running back Devin Neal, Romaine must be just as effective.
Kansas (2-5, 1-3)
K-State’s pass defense will be tested against three talented and experienced fifth-year wide receivers for Kansas.
Luke Grimm leads the way for Kansas with 34 receptions for 363 yards and four touchdowns. Two taller receivers, Lawrence Arnold (6-foot-3) and Quentin Skinner (6-foot-5), come in with 294 yards each with four touchdowns combined on the year.
Defensive back Cobee Bryant carries momentum after having three interceptions last week. The ball-hawk defensive back will try to lock down a hot K-State passing attack.
Kansas earned its first Big 12 win last week after losing five consecutive games this season. The Jayhawks’ record could be misleading, however, as they have been close in the fourth quarter of every loss this season.
