On playing Friday night…
“I can go see Colby [Klieman] play at [Kansas Wesleyan on Saturday] — I’m ecstatic about playing on Friday night, but that’s a dad talking.”
“It’s hard when you have a road game like we had to come back. And we were fortunate … that the sun wasn’t popped out and it wasn’t 105 degrees. We all are grateful for that. It was still really humid and it was really hot, and it took a lot out of our guys to ask them to go and practice [on Sunday].”
“We’re fortunate we’re at home, but we’re on a short week. And with the expanded Big 12, I think we all know it’s going to be a big part of what we do, [playing] on Friday nights. So once again, I’m okay with it, but as a dad, I love it.”
On Arizona WR1 Tetairoa McMillan…
“He’s phenomenal. You watch him last year make plays, and then the first game against New Mexico, he exploited them every time he had a chance to go one-on-one”
“Those two are in sync. The quarterback and wide receiver are as in-tune, and have as good a chemistry as any two people that I’ve faced as far as a wide receiver-quarterback combination.”
On Arizona’s defense…
“For starters, I think they’ve got really disruptive guys up front, and then they have a bunch of experience at linebacker and at safety.”
“If you watch their bowl game with OU [last year], there’s a lot of guys that are still the same jersey numbers or the same players out there. So they’ve got a lot of experience back on defense. I like their scheme. They’re really talented, and they run their scheme really well.”
On playing Arizona as non-con…
“You kind of forget that they just joined the league; I still see it as a non-conference game. If you told us we were playing Baylor in a non conference, I’d say that sounds weird to us. We’re all still figuring this out.”
“I’m telling you, this is the way it should be, and I’m not going to win that [argument], but we need to play 10 conference games, or eight conference games. This nine, playing five on the road and four at home doesn’t make any sense to me … Everybody should play 10, it would have a lot more parity.”
