Dear Students,
What a wonderful university and city environment in which you live and study. Kansas State has long prided itself on being an enjoyable and welcoming place for those who are seeking an education, visiting campus and especially enjoying a sports event. Everyone who is working at our sports venues always enthusiastically says, “Welcome to K-State” to anyone coming into the stadium, the Coliseum and their parking lots. As a K-State graduate, it is always pleasant to hear that when we arrive for a football or basketball game or another campus event.
Students, let’s keep that welcoming spirit when we welcome opposing teams onto our field or floor. Instead of booing them, and I know it seems the natural thing to do, you can really mess with their heads by giving them applause. When you see an opposing fan, tell ‘em “Welcome to K-State.” They will go back home and tell their friends how welcome we made them feel. That is all positive publicity for K-State and we can all be a part of it. Chanting “K-S-U” during games instead of anything else adds to that welcoming attitude. My wife and I are lifelong K-Staters and think of KU the same way you do, but we still show ‘em “Welcome to K-State” when we see them in the stands or concourse. Let’s show all our visitors great sportsmanship and a great welcome, then beat the socks off ‘em!
