Kansas State soccer has yet to win on the road during Big 12 competition after traveling to Arizona and losing both of its games.
The Wildcats, who dropped to 3-11-3 and 0-8-2 in Big 12 play only scored one goal in both games.
Arizona State was first on the Wildcats’ schedule. The Sun Devils got on the board in the 20th minute. In the 53rd minute, forward Jo Sees nearly scored but ultimately Arizona State goalkeeper Pauline Nelles made the save.
“We’re playing good soccer right now,” head coach Mike Dibinni said to K-State Athletics. “Overall, we are just lacking the ability to score goals and it’s causing us to chase games like we did there at the end.”
The Sun Devils added another goal to the scoreboard in the 85th minute, securing the game. Arizona State finished with a 15-7 advantage over K-State in overall shots.
K-State goalkeeper Murphy Sheaff had her 18th match as a Wildcat with five or more saves, holding Arizona State to the 2-0 win.
Arizona was next on the schedule and scored in the second minute of the game. Forward Nicole Dallin scored from seven yards away to give Arizona the early edge.
K-State showed life as forward Sophie Harlan dished the ball to Sees on the left wing to score a goal in the ninth minute, marking her second goal of the season. Arizona regained the lead in the 18th minute as midfielder Megan Chelf scored the goal.
“They just kept coming at us offensively,” Dibbini said. “We just couldn’t do the job from a defensive perspective today.”
A penalty kick in the 31st minute allowed Arizona to go up 3-1. Two more goals in the second half of play grew the lead to 5-1.
The Wildcats have not won a game since Sept. 1. The Sunflower Showdown is next up for K-State at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct 25 at Buser Family Park.
