An all-around effort from Kansas State volleyball helped complete a 3-0 victory against Central Florida on Friday, ending a 12-set, four-game losing streak.
“We’ve been close for a while,” head coach Jason Mansfield said to K-State Athletics. “So, it just felt good to finally win a couple of sets in the first two and get over the hump.”
Playing at home, the Wildcats won each set 25-23, 30-28 and 25-13 to win its first Big 12 matchup this season.
In Set 1, K-State came out hot with a 5-1 lead to begin the game. UCF tightened the score, but K-State closed out the set 25-23 behind five kills from outside hitter Liz Gregorski.
Gregorski kept the kills coming alongside middle blocker Meg Brown, with both contributing two kills to give K-State a 5-2 scoring run in Set 2. The set was a brawl, tying at 28 apiece. A service ace from Gregorski and a kill from outside hitter Aliyah Carter were the final blows in a 30-28 victory for the Wildcats.
Gregorski continued her career night in the final set with two service aces that contributed to a quick 13-5 K-State lead. Set 3 saw the largest lead of the night as K-State went up 23-10.
K-State completed the sweep, winning 25-13 while keeping UCF’s hit percentage to .000.
After three consecutive straight-set losses, the Wildcats earned a sweep of their own to receive the first win of conference play.
“We’ve been working so hard in practice, and obviously in matches,” Mansfield said. “I’m just proud of the girls getting the win.”
Gregorski finished with 14 kills total — her third game this season with 10 or more kills. Brown followed her with 12 kills of her own and Carter turned in eight.
The Wildcats will go on the road to take on Texas Tech at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3.
