Last week, I shared my top tips for the spring semester, one being utilizing campus resources. This week, I’m digging a little deeper, sharing the best ways to take advantage of the amenities Kansas State provides its students.
The Career Center
This is your one-stop shop for professional preparation. If you’re looking to switch majors or find a job, the center has a team prepared to meet with students by appointment. If you want to update or improve your resume, you can also stop in to receive critiques and tips on how to make your resume star-studded. You can also stop by the Career Closet twice a semester to pick a professional outfit for an interview or a headshot and select a new one for free. Finally, you can get a professional picture taken at the Career Center to use on your LinkedIn, Handshake and more for free.
Cat’s Cupboard
All K-State students can use Cat’s Cupboard, which is located close to campus on Denison Avenue. The only requirement to use Cat’s Cupboard is your student ID. There are endless amounts of food and hygiene items for students to choose from for free. You can once a day, and the space is stocked frequently. If you’re looking for a way to save money on grocery items, this is the perfect resource!
PowerCat Financial
I know firsthand how hard budgeting in college can be. Between basic things like groceries and social events, sometimes ensuring I don’t exceed my monthly budget is hard. PowerCat Financial is a student-run peer program that assists you in everything related to money. From creating a financial plan, getting help planning for credit, paying off loans or understanding job offers, endless resources are available by appointment. This is a great way to ensure you are on track financially and get help on some of the more confusing aspects of money.
Chester E. Peters Recreation Complex
With the stress of college, sometimes physical well-being is pushed to the backburner. This is why using the Rec Complex is a great way to improve these aspects without spending extra money. The rec is free to use with student ID and has plenty of workout equipment to fit your preferences. Classes like yoga, pilates, HIIT and cycling are also offered weekly. These are my favorites; they’re a great way to meet new people!
CAPS
Multiple resources are at your fingertips if you’re looking for a way to improve mental health. One option is Lafene Health Center, who offers help through Counseling and Psychological Services. Talking to someone can be scary and expensive, but every K-State student is offered eight free counseling sessions per semester free of charge. If individual counseling isn’t your thing, there are also group sessions and online resources to help you improve your mental health. After reaching out to CAPS, they can assist you in finding the best fit for your needs and schedule through Lafene.
