The Pittsburgh Steelers secured a 24-21 victory against the Minnesota Vikings in a successful trip to Dublin, Ireland. Unfortunately for the Steelers, third-string quarterback Skylar Thompson, a former Kansas State player, faced a scary situation.
In the early hours of Saturday morning on Dame Street, Thompson was jumped after an interaction between him and a group of unidentified males, the Irish Times reported.
Thompson’s phone was stolen by the group. Thankfully, emergency services treated Thompson without having to take the former Wildcat to the hospital.
On Sunday, following Thompson’s incident, the National Football League Players Association issued a statement regarding the situation.
“We are aware of the incident involving Skylar Thompson in Ireland and are relieved to know he is okay. The NFLPA is actively gathering more information and working to understand the full circumstances surrounding what took place. As always, our priority is the health and safety of our player members — especially as we continue to work on player protections and well-being while playing international games — and we will continue to support Skylar in any way he needs.”
Thompson was able to join the Steelers in the win on Sunday despite the alleged assault.
