All new K-State students are invited to Wildcat Welcome Day from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the K-State Alumni Center, sponsored by the K-State Alumni Association. Those who attend can enjoy ice cream floats, register for a textbook scholarship and other prizes and learn about the association's student programs.

The KSU Ultimate Club has begun practices and is inviting anyone to attend. Regular practices are at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the field by the president's home. For more information, go to www.ksu.edu/ultimate.

Academic mentoring places K-State students in community organizations to support family literacy and youth-related programming. Federal work

The KSU Roller Hockey Club will hold an informational meeting at 5 p.m. on Sept. 2 in Waters 137. All members and interested students should attend. Contact Jerry Remsbecker 785-532-5971 with questions.

The Center on Aging will have an open house from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 3. There will be free pizza and a chance to win a gift certificate. Contact Lacey at 785-532-2776 with any questions.

Intramural entries for flag football, soccer and individual singles sports are being accepted in the administrative office at the Peters Recreation Complex. The entry deadline is 5 p.m. Sept. 4. For more information, call 785-532-6980.

The Manhattan Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking volunteer coaches for youth soccer, volleyball, cheerleading and flag football. The approximate season dates are Sept. 2-Oct. 30. Teams generally practice about 2-3 hours per week on schedules set by the coaches. Games are played on Sunday afternoons or weeknight evenings, beginning Sept. 14. Melinda D. Daniels, assistant professor of geography, will give the geography colloquium "Perceptions of Wood in River Landscapes: Implications for Geomorphology, Ecology and Future Research in Fluvial Systems" from 3-4 p.m. Sept. 5 in Seaton 132. This event is open to the public.
